Many rostered leaders who are covered by the ELCA Pension and Benefits Program, through Portico may not be aware of the Employee Assistance Program that is included at no additional cost when you are enrolled in the program.
If you are facing difficulties and don’t know what your first step should be, you can call anytime, day or night, to speak confidentially to a master level professional counselor who can help assess your situation and advise you on your next steps. This includes:
- Financial issues
- Marriage and relationship problems
- Grief or depression
- Parenting concerns
- Work matters
- Mental health
- Child and elder care services
- Substance abuse
- Legal concerns (one no-cost 30 minute consultation with an attorney is covered. If you retain the attorney after the consult, the attorney may provide a 25% discount.)
You and covered family members may qualify for up to six in-person EAP counseling sessions per issue per year at no cost, linking you to helpful agencies or support groups in your community. If the counselor believes you need more sessions or more in-depth help, you will be referred to a mental health counselor which is covered by your Medical and Mental Health benefit.
According to Jennifer Prinz, Regional Representative, Customer Outreach, all of our Rostered and lay Portico members may need some additional help from time to time and that is why it is so important for them to know about the EAP benefit, which is an option for them and is a part of the benefit package. “It’s as easy as a phone call away,” she said. “You can call and they will help!”
