Offered up during Intercessory by Stacey Nalean-Carlson
God of the broken-hearted, again today we lament the horrific violence that has become unbelievably common in our world and in our nation. Fifty-one of your beloved are dead in Orlando, Florida this morning, many others injured, countless left to mourn.
We’ve run out of words, O God. We are tired. We are sick. We are numb. How long, O Lord? How long?
If not before, then certainly now, we have come to the end of our resources. We trust in you alone.
God, where hearts are fearful and constricted, grant courage and hope. Where anxiety is infectious and widening, grant peace and reassurance. Where impossibilities close every door and window, grant imagination and resistance. Where distrust twists our thinking, grant healing and illumination. Where spirits are daunted and weakened, grant soaring wings and strengthened dreams. Thank you for the strength you’ve given us this day through the gathered community, through powerful proclamation, through your word spoken and sung. Thank you. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
