Rostered and lay members from the Northeastern Iowa Synod are invited to attend online listening sessions to share ideas and comments regarding the structure and governance of the ELCA.
The listening sessions are sponsored by the Commission for a Renewed Lutheran Church, which was formed in response to action approved at the 2022 Churchwide Assembly. Some 35 ministers and laypeople from across the church comprise the commission to examine restructuring the governance of the ELCA, with a shared commitment to dismantle racism.
4 LISTENING SESSIONS ARE SCHEDULED:
For Active Rostered Ministers —
Thursday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m.
Monday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m.
For Retired Rostered Ministers –
Friday, Jan. 26, at 10:30 a.m.
For Lay Members —
Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m.
Each one-hour session will be led by The Rev. Dr. Kristin Johnston Largen, president of Wartburg Theological Seminary and member of the CLRC. Participants will receive a handout outlining the purposes of the churchwide organization and potential discussion questions.
Those wanting to participate should email Alison Pettit, synod administrative assistant, or call the synod office at 319-352-1414 to receive a handout and the Zoom link.
