A few spots are still available to join Bishop Kevin Jones for our companion synod trip to Hungary June 21-28, 2024. Those interested will need to sign up by April 1 to reserve their airline flight so that the group can fly together to Budapest.
Organized by the synod’s Global Mission Network, the trip will include meeting with Bishop Tamás Fabiny and other church leaders of the Lutheran Church in Hungary and visiting their ministries, along with other cultural and historical sites. All interested ministers and lay members from the Northeastern Iowa Synod are invited to join the delegation.
A FOCUS ON ACCOMPANIMENT
As guests of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary, much of the itinerary will be shaped by what our hosts are excited to show us and share with us. Potential areas identified include:
- Visit ministries and tour Budapest and the surrounding countryside to learn about the church related to Hungary’s history, culture and current political reality.
- Engage in Bible study and theological reflection with perspectives from Iowa and Hungary.
- Explore Hungarian ministry with the Roma people and efforts related to equality issues.
The cost is projected to be about $2,500-$3,000 per participant, which includes airfare, accommodations (group AirBnb rental), in-country transportation, and meals. The cost of airfare and a $250 non-refundable deposit per person is due by April 1. The full amount will be due by June 1.
Anyone interested in joining the trip or wanting to learn more should email Pastor Liz Bell or call the synod office at 319-352-1414.
