The Northeastern Iowa Synod Fall Theological Conference is set for Oct. 13-15, 2024, at the Bien Venu Event Center in Cedar Falls.
The conference will center on learning, camaraderie, and spiritual refreshment for all rostered ministers actively serving int he Northeastern Iowa Synod, retired rostered ministers serving as interims or regular supply, and those preparing to become rostered (seminary interns and CL, TEEM and SAM students).
The event will start at 5 p.m. Sunday and conclude at 12 noon Tuesday. It will include learning sessions, worship services, devotions, lunch and time with Bishop Kevin Jones, who will discuss preaching on the Sunday after the election.
YEAR C PREACHING TOOLS & INSIGHTS
This year’s theme will give participants tools and insights for preaching in the upcoming Lectionary Year C, beginning with Advent 2024.
The Rev. Dr. Troy Troftgruben, associate professor of New Testament at Wartburg Theological Seminary, and The Rev. Dr. Kristin Wendland, associate professor of Religion at Wartburg College, will lead four sessions focusing on Year C through each major season: Advent, Epiphany, Lent and Easter/Pentecost. They will discuss the texts and theology of some prophetic writings and Luke’s Gospel, and share opportunities and challenges related to preaching and leading worship in the coming year.

Registration for the conference is due Monday, Sept. 30. The conference fee is $100, which includes supper and snacks. Non-rostered spouses can register for a special $50 rate. Registered participants are invited to bring a plus-one for the Sunday evening activities.
