Lay and rostered members of the ELCA are invited to submit feedback regarding draft edits to the 2009 social statement Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust.
The 2022 Churchwide Assembly authorized two reconsiderations to the social statement. The Human Sexuality Reconsiderations Task Force has prepared some editorial draft edits on Reconsideration #1 for the church to now consider.
Reconsideration #1: A review of specific text references that “would consider the import that marriage legally is now a covenant between individuals;” review specific wording “in light of public acceptance of marriage of same-gender and gender-non-conforming couples;” and “consider references to diversity of family configurations”
Public comment and feedback on Reconsideration #1 edits are due by Jan. 31, 2025.
